During the month of Ramadan we fast all day and feast at night! One of the most common struggles isn’t just the hunger, but what to make when you actually can eat! Check in every Monday for what Nadia and I are making for the week!

As you may or may not know, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar where observers fast from sunrise to sunset every day for those 30 days. This means you can’t eat or drink anything! Not a drop of water, no chewing gum, nothing! This year, it’s still a very long day where we break our fast at 7:53pm. That’s almost 8:00pm people! Waaaaaaa!
Monday
Fine, fine, I’ll stop being dramatic, but come on, that is a long day! But let me tell you how upset I was when it fell on the best day of the year (my birthday, July 1) for 4 years in a row!! I’m like birthday master, so not being able to eat anything during that day (remember, the best one of the year, July 1), was really rough! But, I finally cleared it falling on my birthday last year, so yay!
Tuesday
Now, back to Ramadan. I know I’ve been doing a lot of complaining, but it really is a beautiful time for me. Growing up, I used to love when my family and I would wake up for Suhoor, the pre-dawn meal you have in preparation for the day. My mom would make such yummy dishes like Spaghetti with Garlic Yogurt Sauce, Mamounieh and Eggs with Sumac, to name a few. Then we’d all gather around sunset to prepare a big meal. It was so fun because everyone was so present and it brought life to the house unlike any other time of year.

Plus, I really love this month because it recharges my spiritual connection. It takes a great deal of discipline to fast and that helps you center yourself and have a renewed sense of gratitude and appreciation for everything you have. You become more focused, or at least should try to be, on being kinder and more generous, and acting as a positive example of to act and treat others.
Thursday
So, for those of you fasting and those of you who are not, I hope this is a beautiful and magical month full of prayer, family, friends, peace, and of course… lots of great food! Check out what we have on the menu for this week!
