middle eastern style guacamole is a fun way to put a twist on a classic staple dip! With some unique flavors and a bit of crunch it’ll be a new party favorite!
I looooove guacamole! I mean, how could you not!? It has such a great party reputation and is always such a creamy, tangy, melt in your mouth snack that’s actually healthy! Win, win! There are so many varieties of avocados that exist, but the star of this recipe is the thick and creamy Haas variety.
Obviously you can use any kind you want, but know that others will have you sacrificing the richness for a more watery texture. On my dad’s farm, one variety he grows is a very large, smooth skinned variety that has a much less fatty, creamy texture and is still nice, but tends to make a very liquidy, watered down kind of guacamole that even though my dad is convinced is still good (as if they’re his children and he must not choose favorites), I prefer Haas any day of the week!
Ok, now that I’m done with my side-note…What makes this recipe a little different is the use of parsley instead of cilantro, adding some pomegranate molasses for additional tang to the lemon, and adding some crunch through pumpkin and pomegranate seeds. Also, the hint of cumin, can’t forget that!
Now that Superbowl season is upon us, give this guacamole a try! It’s fun to switch things up! And don’t forget to try our other Superbowl ready recipes like our Cheesy Buffalo Chicken Dip and Kofta Nachos!
This guacamole dip is a new twist on the traditional recipe! It adds a fun new hint of flavor and a bit of crunch to liven things up!
- 2 avocados, ripe
- 1/4 + 2 cup + tbsp lemon juice, fresh
- 1 tsp pomegranate molasses (optional, see notes)
- 1/4 cup red onion, diced
- 1/4 cup parsley, chopped (reserve 1 tbsp for garnish)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 dashes cumin
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds, or any seed (optional for crunch)
- 1/4 cup pomegranate seeds (optional for crunch)
- sumac (optional for garnish)
In a bowl, peel and pit avocado. Mash slightly (so as you add liquid ingredients the dip won't get too watery from over-mixing). Add lemon juice and pomegranate molasses, if using. Mix together until combined well. Stir in remaining ingredients and top with reserved parsley and sumac as garnish.
The pomegranate molasses add an interesting tangy flavor to the recipe, but it does deepen the bright green color of the avocado. So, if you want it to be bright green, then add less molasses or leave it out altogether. Also feel free to substitute any seeds you'd like or leave them out too;-)
